News From the HyveUp Crypt - Zivity, RateItAll, Twitter, TubeMogul, Disqus

In my Google Reader, I exclusively subscribe to the companies I covered here on HyveUp. This week, there's quite a few news that are worth reporting here: Zivity organizes a photo contest for students, RateItAll has a new logo, Twitter cannot provide free SMS anymore to a lot of countries, TubeMogul relays the announcement of the MetaCafe Film Festival, and Disqus launches the new Disqus.

Let's start with Zivity's recenlty launched contest for student photographers. There are no specific theme for the contest. Quality prevails. Cash prizes go as high as a $1.000. The winner will also get to be published in a "nationally recognized media property". Photo students, take your chances, you could gain a lot of exposure.

RateItAll, the social rating engine, has unveiled a new logo. The new logo is more evocative of the activity going on RateItAll (the rating stars), the color palette is simpler, livelier, and the exclamation point adds peppiness to the company's name. RIA users, if you want to rate this logo, click here.

TubeMogul relayed a cool upcoming event: The Metafest, MetaCafe's short Film Festival. Independent film producers can enroll here for a chance to win up to $5.000. One of TubeMogul's goals is to provide analytical tools for independent film creators to perform better with online video distribution. This contest is a chance for the best movie artists out there to get exposure and a little cash along the road.

Disqus' CEO Daniel Ha announced the new Disqus on the company's blog. The changes include the new WordPress Plugin 2.0, a new homepage for commenters, a new admin interface for bloggers, new profiles for commenters, amongst other things.

The Twitter team announced that they won't be able to provide free SMS communications anymore to most countries where they operate. It seems that overseas' telcos are not interested in having the communications pipes open for free usage. How surprising. Aussies are having a hard time digesting this announcement.

Contests, new designs, new features... What an exciting way to forget that summertime is coming to an end.
